You probably play GW with the door locked and blinds closed. Cuz you know I'll be trying to get a look at your HoM.

I don't want to agree, but I have to. It would be possible for someone to use it as a tool to mine charector names. That would make it a little easer for someone to hack into our accounts.

I dont like it for the reason that some accounts might be targeted because of the stuff they have. I dont know much about gold-bots or whatever but if the people who run or have them will prioritize ones with full halls (including weapons and armors) over those who dont have those. Should be able to turn off public feature.

Well people can easily just look for people w/ Obby armor and chaos gloves in game and target them. But maybe it would help them narrow those down? Regardless they still need your email.

read the end user agreement, u do not own anything in the game, u just have the right to play. everything is owned by Anet, so there's no invasion of privacy!

That's my worry too. At the moment it doesn't matter, there's not been a rash of 50/50's (or even 30+/50's) being hacked to indicate there's a weakness anywhere in the system, but if and/or when that happens I would like a privacy option put in immediately for non-staff players please. Prevention would be better than cure but I know NCsoft doesn't work like that.

So they know what you have/don't have.
How's that hurting you?

You are, of course, 100% correct - this is an invasion of privacy. But you have to understand 2 things:

1. This game is made by americans and american law is seriously lacking in protection of privacy.
2. The game and this forum is mostly used by young people who lack a real understanding of fundamental concepts. The odds are stacked against the one arguing a case based on lofty ideals and vague principles. (one of which 'right to privacy' indeed is)

You are 100% wrong. You don't own anything on your character in Guild Wars. It is all the property of Arenanet and they're allowed to show their stuff to whoever they want.

I think the reason that you can't see what minis someone has dedicated it to avoid those accounts with Kanaxais etc. being targeted. So many people have Obsidian/Chaos Gloves now it'd be much easy to get the names in game than from the HoM app.

Case and point.

Any data that can be linked to you as an individual are considered 'personal data'. So whereas you may not own the data themselves you own the right to their use. Now the HoM data can't be used to directly identify any person, but it's not a stretch to assume that many people have given out their identity to other people in the game.

The main justification for data processing regarding personal data is consent, which is to say an informed consent. Many people were not aware that their HoM achievements would be made public when they added the data, this implies a breach of the principle of consent.

I highly doubt Anet are allowed to show all the data people have submitted to anyone they want. They are certainly not allowed to disclose customer identification such as your name, credit card used to purchase, your address and so on.

I can go on about this in more detail if necessary, but I doubt the general public here finds it very interesting. My main point is, as the OP, that Anet has dealth with the issue of privacy on this matter too lightly. But hey, this seems to be a current trend and most people seem not to mind...

If someone has all the minis in a given section....then obviously a specific mini is there. I can think of 3 such accounts right offhand where this is the case. Not only are ded Kanaxis on these accounts but all the other super high end minis...which in theory, makes them priority targets for hacking.

Ill sign this suggestion, just not for the reasons....

Im sure im not the first to think this makes the whole "Input your Character name so we can verify you havent stolen the account" rise in security a few months ago superfluous?

This makes it actually much easier for Hackers and Phishers to check which accounts are actually worth something and which they are easily able to ignore.

An account with 1/50 could be a mule account and would have stuff stored on it thats worth to sell.

An account with 50/50 or close to that mark will be from soemone who can probably afford a lot and has invested time and would probably have stuff worth selling

An account with anything inbetween is proably not worth much because the above reasoning doesnt appply.
